Gordon Banks' England cap 1970 World Cup
Gordon Banks' blue World Cup 1970 International cap, representing the matches against Rumania, Brazil and Czechoslovakia, in a wood and perspex display case. In the opening game of the 1970 World Cup Tournamemt played in Mexico against Romania on 2nd June at the Jalisco Stadium, Guadalajara, before 50,000 spectators, England defeated Romania 1-0. In the next match against Brazil played on 7th June at the same stadium, before 66,750 spectators, Brazil defeated England 1-0. In the next match against Czechoslovakia played on 11 June at the same stadium, England defeated Czechoslovakia 1-0. This was to be Banks's last match in the tournament due to an illness that kept him out of the Quarter-final match against West Germany. Sold at auction for £8225. Copyright www.Christies.com
